Spindle components

SLF not only manufactures components for mounting and bearings, but also fully machines various complex spindle components in-house by turning, milling, grinding, and drilling. For specific production requirements that we cannot fulfill ourselves, we rely on a network of dependable long-term partners and experts.

Balancing and test spindles

SLF’s balancing- and test spindles are used in balancing machines, in test stands in high- and low-temperature regions, and in research and development, among other applications. Balancing and test spindles are used to hold balancing devices and clamping systems to fix the tools, test specimens or machine components to carry out the subsequent balancing process using different balancing methods.

Dressing spindles

SLF dressing spindles are employed to dress and shape various abrasive bodies (such as wheels) by means of special tools. They can be equipped with various sensors for chamfer detection and reliably fulfill the most stringent precision requirements.

Drilling and milling spindles

SLF’s drilling and milling spindles are used in milling machines and machining centers. They are designed for various tool interfaces (including hollow shaft tapers, steep tapers, and collets, as well as short tapers) to mount/ hold the drilling and milling tools. The clamping systems used enable both manual and automated tool change. SLF drilling and milling spindles support different tool cooling options.

Workpiece spindles/ tailstock sleeves

SLF’s workpiece spindles and tailstock sleeves are high-precision positioning systems and can be used in any kind of machine tools for rotary machining (turning, grinding, etc.). These spindles and sleeves are designed to mount/ hold, support, and drive workpieces; the workpiece spindles (also called headstock spindles) are driven, whereas the tailstock sleeves serve to align the workpiece centrally on the opposite side.

Grinding spindles

SLF’s grinding spindles are employed in grinding machines and machining centers for external and internal machining of various workpieces made of a wide range of materials (including metals, ceramic, special alloys, glass, etc.). They offer precision machining, quiet running, easy maintenance, long life, and robust design.

Spindle service

SLF spindle services extend a comprehensive range of complex spindle unit solutions comprising up- and downstream services, both for our own and other manufacturers’ products.
This service package includes our consultation on the design and dimensioning of machining systems and the analysis, wear and damage estimation, and repair of spindle units made by almost every other manufacturer as well.

Customized spindle solutions

In the spindle unit sector, SLF provides a wide range of solutions, from which we design and manufacture products that are exactly tailored to your needs, starting with one-of-a-kind units. We also offer solutions for special technologies, such as friction welding (press welding method to join parts by friction) or welding of rails for railway lines.

Spindle units

We design and manufacture high-precision spindles as one-of-a-kind pieces and in small series, up to 1.800 mm length, in a diameter range from 32 to 525 mm, with a running precision of 1 μ.

Roller bearings made of special materials

Roller bearings made of special materials are primarily used when standard solutions are insufficient. These include, for instance, applications in the food and drink industry, in robotics, in aeronautics and space travel, in medical engineering, and in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry.

Hybrid bearings

Due to their lower weight, they are well suited to high speeds and have outstanding electric resistance, which is why they are frequently used in electric motors. Hybrid bearings are also used more and more often in rail vehicles, wind turbines, and other applications with specific standards.

Current-insulating coated bearings

Particularly in electric motors and generators, internally generated electricity between the rotor and the stator due to design is discharged in roller bearings.

Double-acting axial angular contact ball bearings

Double-acting axial angular contact ball bearings of the 2344 design type are used to mount precision spindles in machine tools. Their design makes them very stiff high-precision bearings with axial preload and tight tolerances.

Double row high-precision cylindrical roller bearings

High-precision cylindrical roller bearings produced in single row and double row designs by SLF are ideal floating bearings. They are used not only as floating bearings, but also in applications demanding radially rigid, highly precise solutions with high load carrying capacity.
